DAY 1: MADE FOR RELATIONSHIPS

Key Scripture:

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe

yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and

patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you

has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in

perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as

members of one body you were called to peace”.

(Colossians 3:12-15 NIV).

All human beings have been created for relationships. We all want to feel loved and accepted by someone. We all hate to be alone and want to belong somewhere. Often people on their death beds have been heard saying that they wish they had spent more time with the people they loved. Healthy relationships make us rich in soul and even when things are going bad, it is our relationships that give us courage.

We read that God made the earth and everything in it, and at the peak of His creation, he made a man. Adam was enjoying a great relationship with God;however, something was missing. He still felt alone. Man wanted someone just like himself. God then created Eve as close companionship for Adam.Through this we see there are three key relationships that every man and woman need in their life. Firstly, a relationship with God. Secondly, a relationship with ourselves. Finally, our relationships with others. So he answered and said, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ” (Luke 10:27 NKJV)

We begin to encounter problems in life when any of these relationships are not functioning correctly. Anxiety; depression; violence; substance abuse; and unhealthy sexual relations are some of the signs that there is a relational challenge somewhere.

The truth is that relationships are scary, and we always stand the chance of getting hurt. However, without the right connections, we cannot function properly as human beings.

Conversation starter:
