Key Scripture:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2 NIV)
One of the most amazing things to see is how a caterpillar goes through the process of metamorphosis into a butterfly. At first the main aim of the caterpillar is to eat as much as possible to grow. Eventually, he becomes big enough and then begins to spin himself closed into a cocoon. From here the caterpillar goes into a time of hibernation. On the outside, it looks like nothing is happening, but on the inside, he is busy transforming into a beautiful butterfly. To be transformed means to change and to go through metamorphosis. This transformation is a process of our mind being renewed.
From the moment we are born into this world our mind is being programmed. Your mind is like a computer. All the information you have gathered over the years has taught you how to process, think, feel and react. Some of this programming is good, but a lot of it is built on secular values, worldly systems and lies from the enemy.
Often, we want to change our behavior before we have changed our belief systems. To behave the right way, we need to change how we think. As a believer the way we need think is in accordance with the Kingdom of God and the Word of God. This is a process of renewing our minds. Just like the caterpillar, WE NEED TO EAT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE to grow! We need to eat the Word of God so that we can be CHANGED and transformed in our thinking! When our minds are renewed, and our thinking is in line with God’s Word, our lives will also work. We will begin to walk as God designed us to live.
How do I do this practically?
For example: When I sin, the enemy will come and lie to me and tell me what a failure I am, how shameful I should feel and how bad it would be if people know this about me. This is not the truth! The truth is what God's Word says. I need to renew and transform my mind with the Word of God. The Word says my sins are forgiven, that I am the righteous in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). I am victorious. That I can run boldly to God's throne of grace, because Jesus has paid a high price for me and that instead of shame, He gives me a double portion of blessing and honour.
Remember that this takes time. Just because you might see some of your old nature popping up, don't despair. God is guiding you through a process of TRANSFORMATION, and He will complete the work He has started.
