DAY 21: AUTHORITY AS A BELIEVER

Key Scripture:

“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 2:15 NKJV).

Have you ever seen an epic battle acted out between good (Jesus) and evil (Satan)? Right towards the end, good defeats the bad and "Jesus" is the winner. It is important to know today that Jesus overcame Satan at the cross. There was no fight needed. Satan is NO match for God.

What went wrong in the garden?

In the garden, God gave Adam and Eve authority and dominion over the garden. The garden was their delegated portion to rule over and multiply. Satan, the ‘king’ of the Kingdom of darkness, did not like that Adam and Eve had relationship with God, and that they were given dominion and authority. Therefore, by lying to Adam and Eve and getting them to mistrust God, and His goodness, Satan deceived them. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they forfeited their ‘dominion' over the earth. Satan now took that authority as their new master. Remember you are a slave to whomever you obey (Romans 6:16; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:2).

When Jesus conquered Satan on the cross the authority that Adam lost was restored back to us.

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19 NKJV).

Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18 NKJV).

How do I overcome?

Speak the Word

We overcome the enemy by knowing the Word of God and our authority as believers. The Word of God is the truth! The only way we can confront lies is when we know what the Word says and what the Truth is. Whenever the devil confronted Jesus, Jesus never tried to argue or debate with him. He just told him what the Word said, and therefore Satan had to flee. Mathew 4:4 "the enemy comes and tempts Jesus, but this is what Jesus said " “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Do you know what the Word says concerning your health, finances, family, and identity? Remember it is okay to feel weak or vulnerable and ask for help. As you grow in God, you will come to a place where you too will be able to help other new believers overcome the enemy.

Share your Testimony

Another way to overcome is to share our testimony. The Bible says we overcome by the blood of the Lamb (remembering that Jesus already defeated Satan on the cross) and by the Word of our testimony. Your testimony is a public statement to others of what God has done in our lives. The more you share with others of what God has done for you in the big and small things, the easier it is to overcome! The enemy will do everything to keep you silent and from sharing about God's goodness in your life.
