Key Scripture:
“For the wages of sin is death”
(Romans 6:23 NKJV).
When Adam and Eve chose to eat of the fruit of the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden, it was the beginning of independence and separation from God. They had fallen for the lies of Satan and started doubting God’s heart towards them. How then did Adam and Eve’s decisions affect me?
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death
through sin, and thus death spread to all men because all sinned”
(Romans 5:12 NKJV).
Because Adam and Eve sinned, all mankind are born into sin. Sin is missing the mark, falling short of God’s original design for man to be in perfect relationship with God.
The result and the consequences of sin is death. Death is not only physical, but it is also a spiritual separation from God. Therefore, when Adam and Eve fell for the lies of Satan, they cut themselves off spiritually from the life of God.
Death began to filter through to all areas of their lives. They found themselves running from God, rather than enjoying an unbroken relationship with Him. They began to fight with each other and blame each other. Mankind’s lifespan was shortened. Poverty; sickness and disease became the norm as Satan controlled the earth. These symptoms are the result of bad choices, which lead to death filling the earth.
The weight of separation from God is felt in every aspect of life. Without Him, mankind is left searching for meaning in a world that cannot satisfy. Emptiness, fear, and despair take hold, and no amount of success or pleasure can fill the void. Relationships fracture, loneliness grows, and the soul longs for something more. Humanity was designed for connection with God, yet in His absence, we wrestle with a deep and aching void.
This separation has unleashed suffering—violence, sickness, and death permeate the world. Creation itself groans under sin’s weight, as hearts grow cold and darkness prevails. Striving replaces peace, and burdens become unbearable. The pain of this disconnect is undeniable, a stark reminder of what was lost in the garden and the devastating impact of sin.
