Key Scripture:
“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of His household” (Ephesians 2:19 NIV).
Not only are we adopted into God’s spiritual family, but this is also demonstrated practically by being part of a church family or community. The same way that babies are not meant to be born and then left outside, without the safety and protection of a family, so it is with God’s spiritual children. As a Child of God, you need a spiritual family around you to help you grow and disciple you in the ways of the Kingdom.
Psalms 92:13 says: “Those that are planted in the house of the Lord will flourish.”
Only trees that are planted can bear fruit. If you keep uprooting a tree, it will never grow to its full potential. It is essential for your spiritual growth that you are correctly ‘planted' in the house.
The church is a family and God places you in a family where it pleases Him (1 Corinthians 12:18). These families are like any other family; it is a place where people can get to know you for who you really are. Every family has ‘elders’ (Old wise people, like fathers and mothers), brothers, sisters and cousins that can encourage and challenge us. Brothers and sisters have the tendency sometimes to rub one another up the wrong way. It is the same with the church family. Some people you will connect with and they will bring the best out of you. Others will just push every button and bring out the worst in you. God uses people to shape and mold us, to build our characters so that we can become more like Christ.
God made us for relationship with Him and others. We cannot grow to our full potential in isolation. It is therefore important to plan to get connected into a community with other spiritual believers somewhere today! This is vital for your spiritual growth.
