Key Scripture:
“…giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the Kingdom of the Son of His love…” (Colossians 1:12-14 NKJV).
When we are born, we become citizens of our country of origin. This is what gives us our nationality. When we are born again, we are born into God’s Kingdom. We are now Kingdom Citizens.
How does the Kingdom of God work?
There are two main unseen Kingdoms in this world: the kingdom of darkness (Satan’s kingdom) and the Kingdom of light (God’s Kingdom). Every single human being on the planet lives in either one of these two Kingdoms. The word Kingdom means: “The Kings Domain” or the area/land a King rules over. Before we were born again, we submitted to the Kingdom of Darkness and His domain. After being born again we transfer our citizenship from the Kingdom of Darkness to the Kingdom of Light. Now as Kingdom of God citizens we need to learn how to submit to our new Lord, Jesus Christ, and His domain. How do we do that?
By yielding our lives to the King’s values and submitting to His ways. His ways and values are all expressed in the Word of God. For example, the bible says in Romans 12:18, “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men”. When we begin to apply His values and ways for living, the Kingdom gets established in our hearts. This change of values and ways takes time, but as we journey we will slowly see how we begin to live for Him and not for ourselves. As you are faithful with submitting your own life to God’s rule, He will give you more territory to rule over.
Being a citizen of a Kingdom also means that you get specific benefits. It is important not to forget your benefits your benefits:
(see Psalms 103:2).
•Protection (Psalms 91)
• Provision (Psalms 23:1 and Matthew 6:31-33)
• Health (1 Peter 2:24)
• Peace (John 14:27)
